FULTON – The Jones County Junior College men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Itawamba here Thursday afternoon at the Johnson-Partlow Tennis Courts.
Jones split the six singles' matches.
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) defeated Ezra Blissard in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (5). In No. 4 singles,
James Estrada (St. Stanislaus) rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-2 victory over Edson Marchant.
Daniel Tanious (Laurel Christian School) won in No. 6 singles over Blake Gregory, 6-2, 6-3.
In No. 1 singles, David Garcia-Perez beat
Mitar Milosavljevic (Serbia), 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. In No. 3 singles, Roberto Valadez defeated
Cody Courtney (Florence), 6-2, 6-0. In No. 5 singles, Michael Crotts edged
Erich Fischer (Wesson), 6-7, 7-5, 10-7.
In extra matches, Russell Applewhite edged
Jed Slover (Northeast Jones), 9-7, and Brody Clayton defeated
Conner Henderson (Petal), 7-1.
In No. 1 doubles, Garcia-Perez and Marchant beat Milosavljevic and Courtney, 8-4. In No. 2 doubles, Blissard and Crotts defeated Monsalve and Estrada, 8-4. In No. 3 doubles, Valadez and Gregory edged Fischer and Slover, 9-8 (4).
In an extra match, Russell Applewhite and Brody Clayton beat Tanious and Henderson, 8-5.
JCJC falls to 2-5, while Itawamba is 3-2.
The Bobcats will play their final match before spring break against Blue Mountain College at 10 a.m. on Friday in New Albany. The next match after that will be on March 21 vs. Cowley College (Kansas) in Meridian.
Itawamba goes to East Central on Friday.
