ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College men's tennis team lost 8-1 to Mississippi Gulf Coast here Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Courts.
JCJC's only win came in No. 4 singles where
James Estrada (St. Stanislaus) came back to beat Evan Chubb, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. Estrada is a Gulf Coast transfer.
In No. 1 singles, Austin Vos beat
Mitar Milosavljevic (Serbia), 6-4, 6-2. In No. 2 singles, Travis Bell downed
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela), 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. In No. 3 singles, John Murphy beat
Cody Courtney (Florence), 6-0, 6-1. In No. 5 singles, Reid Cudd defeated
Erich Fischer (Wesson), 6-3, 6-3 and in No. 6 singles, Noah Rowell defeated
Daniel Tanious (Laurel Christian School), 7-6, 6-2.
Bell and Vos beat Monsalve and Milosavljevic in No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Rowell and Murphy edged Estrada and Courtney in No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Cudd and Chubb defeated
Jed Slover (Northeast Jones) and Tanious in No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
In an extra match, JCJC's
Conner Henderson (Petal) beat Isaac Hoffman, 8-6, and Slover lost to Austin Moore, 8-5.
No. 22 JCJC is now 1-3. No. 15 MGCCC is 6-0.
JCJC is scheduled to play Blue Mountain College in New Albany at 1 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats will host Delta State in a 4:30 p.m. scrimmage on Friday and will travel to East Central at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
MGCCC goes to Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday.
