No. 5 Lady Bobcats whip Meridian, 98-73

ELLISVILLE – The 5th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats whipped Meridian Community College 98-73 here Thursday night in the final regular season game of the year.
The Lady Bobcats end regular season play at 20-3 overall and 13-1 in the MACJC South Division.
The Lady Bobcats, the South Division top seed, will face the No. 4 North team on Tuesday in the first round of the MACJC Tournament at Northwest Mississippi in Senatobia. A complete bracket will be released on Friday.
JCJC took the lead for good at 7-6 on Chrystal Ezechukwu's (Stone Mountain, Georgia) 3-point play at 7:48 of the first quarter. Jones led 22-16 after the first quarter.
Nique Cherry's (Heidelberg) putback at 3:38 of the second quarter put JCJC up 39-25. MCC cut the margin to 45-36 at halftime.
Rokila Wallace scored with 6:31 left in the third quarter to trim JCJC's lead to 53-49.
But JCJC scored 12 straight points – capped by an Alexis Tolefree (Conway, Arkansas) 3-pointer – to take a 65-49 lead with 4:38 showing. A Cherry basket at 2:02 made it 73-51. The Lady Bobcats were up 75-54 after three quarters.
The Lady Bobcats took their longest lead at 87-60 with 5:37 remaining when Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) made a free throw.
JCJC placed six players in double figures with Ezechukwu and Tolefree scoring 17 points each. Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) had 15 points, Cherry and Kira Bonner (Quitman) had 14 points each and K.K. Tassin (Terry) added 10.
Wallace led Meridian with 22 points. Mallory Thompson added 18, Shannon Tate had 15 and Qiayon Bailey had 13.
The Lady Eagles end the season at 12-11 overall and 5-9 in the division.
SOPHOMORE NIGHT
JCJC women's sophomores honored during "Sophomore Night" were K.K. Tassin, Alexis Tolefree, Kira Bonner, Camryn London (Birmingham, Alabama), Madison Bishop (Collegiate Christian), Nique Cherry, Jaresa Brooks (North Forrest) and Chrystal Ezechukwu.
