DECATUR – The 7
th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats scored the game's first 12 points and went on to defeat East Central 77-64 here Monday night at the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building.
The Lady Bobcats are now 19-3 overall, 12-1 in the MACJC South Division.
Camryn London's (Birmingham, Alabama) 3-pointer with 4:42 left in the first quarter gave the Lady Bobcats a 12-0 lead. JCJC took a 23-7 lead with seven seconds showing in the quarter when
ZaKyia Weathersby (Collins) scored off an assist by
Mackenzie Thompson (East Rankin Academy).
JCJC's longest lead of the first half was 28-10 with 8:25 on the clock when London scored off an assist by
Kira Bonner (Quitman). The Lady Bobcats led 43-27 at halftime.
Two London free throws with 35.7 seconds left in the third quarter gave the Lady Bobcats its longest lead of the game at 62-40.
ECCC pulled within 67-57 with 3:46 remaining when Autumn Taylor made two free throws. The Lady Warriors would get no closer.
Alexis Tolefree (Conway, Arkansas) led the Lady Bobcats with 16 points. London added 13 and
Nique Cherry (Heidelberg) had 11 points and 19 rebounds – her 19
th 'double-double' of the season. Weathersby finished with 10 points.
Chrystal Ezechukwu (Stone Mountain, Georgia) pulled down 18 rebounds. Tolefree had 5 assists.
Taylor had 25 points for the Lady Warriors, 12-9 overall and 5-8 in the division.
JCJC was 25-of-83 from the floor (5-of-24 from 3-point range) for 30 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 22-of-34 from the free throw line.
ECCC was 19-of-73 from the field (8-of-35 from 3-point range) for 26 percent. ECCC was 18-of-30 from the free throw line.
JCJC outrebounded ECCC, 77-48.
The Bobcats will end regular season play at home at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday against Meridian Community College. It will be "Sophomore Night" at A.B.Howard Gymnasium and the game will air on www.jcjc.tv.
The MACJC Tournament begins Feb. 26 at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia. The Lady Bobcats will play the No. 4 seed from the North at a time to be announced on Feb. 27.
East Central ends regular season play at Hinds on Thursday.
