Eagles edge Bobcats in men's tennis, 5-4

RAYMOND – No. 24 Hinds Community College edged No. 22 Jones County 5-4 in men's tennis action here Monday afternoon.
Hinds won two of the three doubles' points and the teams split the six singles' matches.
In No. 3 doubles, Cody Courtney (Florence) and Jed Slover (Northeast Jones) beat Drew Rexrode and Jamal Holmes-Griffin, 8-3.
In No. 1 doubles, Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) and Mitar Milosavljevic (Serbia) lost to Carlos Trujillo and Mateo Garcia, 8-1. In No. 2 doubles, Erich Fischer (Wesson) and James Estrada (St. Stanislaus) lost to Eric Holmes and Bryce Livingston, 8-6.
In No. 4 singles, Estrada outlasted Rexrode, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. Fischer outlasted Livingston in No. 5 singles, 7-5, 5-7, 10-7. In No. 6 singles, Daniel Tanious (Laurel Christian School) whipped Holmes-Griffin, 6-1, 6-2.
In No. 1 singles, Trujillo defeated Milosavljevic, 6-4, 6-2. In No. 2 singles, Mateo beat Monsalve, 6-2, 6-2. In No. 3 singles, Courtney lost to Holmes, 6-3, 6-2.
In extra matches, Slover defeated Aaron Galloway, 6-3, 5-7, 10-7, and Conner Henderson (Petal) whipped Antonio Lambert, 8-1.
The Bobcats go to Itawamba for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday and will play its next home match on Feb. 27 against Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Hinds entertains Meridian on Thursday.
