No. 7 Bobcats dominate "Catfight" with 48-7 win over Pearl River

Box Score POPLARVILLE – There was no doubt who the top "Cat" was in the 88thannual "Catfight" here Thursday night at Dobie Holden Stadium.
The 7th-ranked Jones College Bobcats dominated in all three phases and whipped Pearl River Community College, 48-7.
Running back Kalyn Grandberry (Memphis, Tennessee) rushed 20 times for 173 yards and two touchdowns and caught four passes for 66 yards and another score to post 239 yards of total offense. Quarterback Stetson Bennett (Blackshear, Georgia) completed 12-of-19 passes for 178 yards and three scores.
Defensively, the Bobcats held Pearl River to 122 yards of total offense – two yards in the second half – and nine first downs. Jones had 12 tackles for loss and  9 1/2 sacks.
Rayshon Marcell (Moss Point) had 6 tackles, Nick Anderson (Vicksburg) had 5 1/2 tackles and a sack, Daylen Gill (Louisville) had 4 tackles, 3 TFLs and 2 sacks, Devonte Toles (Pass Christian) had 3 tackles, 2 TFLs and 2 sacks and Chei Hill (Miami, Florida) had 3 tackles, 2 TFLs and 2 sacks.
In special teams play, Jones' Nataurean Watts (Petal) blocked a PRCC punt and Enrique Whaley (Wiggins) returned it for a touchdown. The Bobcats also successfully converted a fake punt.
The Bobcats are now 5-1 overall and lead the MACJC South Division at 4-0. Pearl River is now 0-6 and 0-4.
Jones struck first on its second possession of the game.
Wide receiver Gabe Douglas (Denton, Texas) caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Bennett to end a 48-yard, eight-play drive. Cristofer Thompson's (Adams County Christian School) extra point gave Jones a 7-0 lead with 3:45 left in the first quarter.
The Bobcats added to the lead when Bennett checked down and tossed a short pass to Grandberry, who ran it 62 yards for a touchdown. Thompson's PAT gave Jones a 14-0 lead with 10:40 left in the first half.
Jones then botched an onsides kick attempt and Pearl River took over at the Bobcat 37-yard line.
Six plays later, quarterback Tavis Williams scored on a 17-yard run. William Lang's extra point cut the lead to 14-7 with 7:49 left in the second quarter.
But the Bobcats responded on its next possession, driving 70 yards in nine plays. On third and goal at the Pearl River 6, Bennett kept it around left end and scored. The extra point attempt was blocked, but Jones was up 20-7 with 4:13 left in the first half.
The Bobcats put the game away with a 28-point third quarter.
Jones went 46 yards in six plays on its second possession of the second half. 
Grandberry took a handoff and went up the gut from 11 yards away for a touchdown. Thompson's conversion gave Jones a 27-7 lead with 9:02 remaining in the third quarter.
Jones began its next drive at its own 23 after a Pearl River punt. 
Bennett tossed a 4-yard pass to Immanuel Jones (Amory) on first down. Grandberry then took a handoff and raced around right end 73 yards unscathed for a touchdown. Thompson's extra point made it 34-7 with 6:16 to play in the third quarter.
The Bobcat defense forced a '3 and out' on PRCC's next possession. Lang's punt was blocked by "Phat" Watts and Whaley ran it from 28 yards for a touchdown. Thompson's PAT put the Bobcats up 41-7 with 4:28 left in the third quarter.
After another 'three and out' by the defense, the Bobcats took possession at the Wildcat 34 after an 8-yard punt return by Jones.
On the next play, Bennett connected with Jones on the wheel route for a 34-yard touchdown pass with 3:08 to play in the third quarter. Thompson's extra point ended the scoring and started the MACJC 'running clock' rule.
The fourth quarter went by quickly and the game ended with the Bobcats at the PRCC 20.
The Bobcats now lead the series over Pearl River, 44-42-2.
Next week, the Bobcats will play its final non-division regular season game when they visit Northeast Mississippi for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff on Oct. 11. The game will air on www.jcjc.tvand WLAU-FM, 99.3, with Mark Easley and Luke Johnson on the call.
Pearl River goes to Southwest on Oct. 13.
