ELLISVILLE – The No. 16 Jones College Lady Bobcats will go for its third straight MACJC championship Sunday.
The Lady Bobcats received three goals from
Mikayla Banks (Vicksburg) and whipped Pearl River 6-0 here Saturday evening at Bobcat Soccer Field in the MACJC Tournament semifinals.
The Lady Bobcats will play Mississippi Gulf Coast at 5 p.m. Sunday for the championship. The game will be video cast on www.jcjc.tv.
The winner of the Jones/MGCCC game will host LSU-Eunice on Oct. 27 for the Region 23 championship.
MGCCC upset No. 10 Holmes on penalty kicks. The game was tied 0-0 after regulation and after two, 10-minute overtime sessions. MGCCC then outscored Holmes 4-2 on PKs.
Jones was impressive again as they improved to 12-2. It was their fifth straight victory and 10
thshutout.
Aimee Durn (London, England) scored at 20:08 with
Anna Grace Gieger (West Jones) on the assist.
Mikayla Banks (Vicksburg) got the first of her three goals at 38:23 with
Zakiah Almatrood (Biloxi) on the assist to make it 2-0 going into halftime.
Esmeralda Figueroa (Northeast Jones) scored at 47:00 with Durn on the assist.
Rachel Barnaby's (Derry, Ireland) free kick at 53:36 made it 4-0. Banks put the ball in the net with a Figueroa assist at 62:31. Banks got the final goal on a Durn assist at 78:02.
Alexis Wilson (Long Beach) earned the shutout for the Lady Bobcats.
Pearl River ends the season at 8-8-1.
