MERIDIAN – Seventh-ranked Jones College wasted little time taking control Tuesday evening, scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes and cruising to a 3-0 shutout of Meridian at C.D. Smith Field.
Jorgelis Serna, Karla Ovalle and Dillyn Biancamano each scored as the Bobcats improved to 10-3-1 overall and 6-3 in MACCC play.
Jones dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Eagles 16-2, including an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal, while recording its eighth clean sheet of the season.
Serna needed just 80 seconds to put the Bobcats in front, finding the back of the net at the 1:20 mark for an early 1-0 advantage.
Ovalle doubled the lead less than 14 minutes later, scoring at the 14:56 mark to give Jones a 2-0 cushion it would carry into halftime.
The Bobcats continued to control possession and create scoring opportunities after the break, firing eight shots in each half while limiting Meridian to just one attempt in each period.
Biancamano put the finishing touches on the victory in the 82nd minute, scoring off an assist from Maryanne Ward with 8:07 remaining to account for the final margin.
Jones goalkeeper Darby Ford needed just one save to preserve the clean sheet, playing all 90 minutes behind a Bobcat defense that allowed only two total shots.
Meridian goalkeeper Pressley Byrd made eight saves in the loss as the Eagles dropped to 8-6-2 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
Jones hosts Itawamba Friday, Oct. 23 for its regular season home finale at 5 p.m.
