POPLARVILLE – There was no complacency for the 16
th-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats here at Wildcat Soccer Field Friday evening.
Jones had clinched the MACJC South Division crown on Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Lady Bobcats continued that momentum with an impressive 8-0 victory over Pearl River in the "Catfight on the Pitch."
Jones is now 10-2 overall and 7-0 in the South Division and hosts the MACJC Tournament Oct. 20-21 at Bobcat Soccer Field.
Before then, the Lady Bobcats will host Meridian at 5 p.m. on Monday in the final regular season game. It will be "Sophomore Night" for the Lady Bobcats.
Jones got off to a great start when
Mikayla Banks (Vicksburg) scored just 16 seconds into the match on an assist by
Rachel Barnaby (Derry, Ireland).
Aimee Durn (London, England) scored in the 15
thminute on a penalty kick. Banks scored again in the 17
thminute with
Olivia Simpson (George County) getting the assist. Barnaby scored on a header in the 40
th minute to make it 4-0.
Barnaby scored again on an
Esmeralda Figueroa (Northeast Jones) assist in the 53
rdminute. Durn's goal in the 57
thminute via a
Madison LaFontaine (Pass Christian) assist made it 6-0. Figueroa scored in the 72
ndminute with
Allie James (West Jones) on the assist. Figueroa ended the scoring in the 80
thminute with
Anna Grace Gieger (West Jones) getting the assist.
Alexis Wilson (Long Beach) was in goal for Jones.
Pearl River ends the regular season at 7-7-1 overall, 4-3-1 in the division. They will play a quarterfinal match on Thursday.
