DECATUR – The Jones County Junior College men's tennis team closed regular season with a 6-3 decision over East Central Community College here Wednesday afternoon at the ECCC Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats are 8-6, while the Warriors are 11-7.
Both teams will now compete in the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament April 19-22 at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Tennis Complex in Perkinston.
Jones won the No.'s 1-4 singles' points.
In No. 1 singles,
Taqel Lewis (St. Lucia) rolled past Willie Wooton, 6-2, 6-0.
Diego Leal (Colombia) defeated John Jimenez in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Chase Pennington (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) beat Joseph Jabour in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2. In No. 4 singles,
Jacob Bozeman (Brookhaven) downed Will Stewart, 6-3, 6-2. Brandon Rogers beat
Brandon McCary (Wayne County) in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Graham Murphree defeated
Luke Armstrong (Hartfield Academy) in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
In No. 1 doubles, Lewis and Leal beat Tom Langelaar and Jabour, 8-3. Pennington and McCary downed Jimenez and Stewart in No. 2 doubles, 8-5. Rogers and Wooton edged Bozeman and Armstrong in No. 3 doubles, 9-7.
JCJC's
Jed Slover (Northeast Jones) and
Blake Taylor (Northwest Rankin) won an extra doubles match over Emontie Lewis and Mark Stewart.
