ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats dropped a hard-fought, 5-4 decision to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College here Monday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
The teams split the six singles matches and MGCCC took two of the three doubles' points.
Diego Leal (Colombia) beat John Murphy in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Chase Pennington (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) defeated Noah Tippen in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Luke Armstrong (Hartfield Academy) edged Brett Bowen in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.
Travis Bell beat
Diego Leal (St. Lucia) in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Noah Rowell defeated
Jacob Bozeman (Brookhaven) in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4, and Reid Cudd downed
Brandon McCary (Wayne County) in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Lewis and Leal beat Bell and Murphy in No. 1 doubles, 8-6.
Tippen and Rowell defeated Pennington and McCary in No. 2 doubles, 8-5, and Bowen and Cudd edged Armstrong and Bozeman in No. 3 doubles, 9-7.
JCJC, 7-6, plays its final regular season match at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at East Central.
MGCCC, 14-4, travels to Hinds on Wednesday.
The MACJC/Region 23 Tournament will be April 19-22 at MGCCC.
