ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College men's tennis team blanked Northeast Mississippi 9-0 in the home opener here Friday at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
It was only JCJC's second match of the year, as four matches have already been rained out.
In No. 1 doubles,
Taqel Lewis (Castries, St. Lucia) and
Diego Leal (Bucaramanga, Colombia) beat Alex Riveria and Jacob Jeffrys, 8-0.
Chase Pennington (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) and
Brandon McCary (Wayne County) defeated Jacob Price and Tomas Tucker in No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
Luke Armstrong (Hartfield Academy) and
Jed Slover (Northeast Jones) blanked Chandler Walden and Cory Lindsey in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
In No. 1 singles, Lewis beat Riveria, 6-0, 6-0, while Leal downed Walden in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Pennington defeated Jacob Price in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Slover beat Andrew Price in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0. The Bobcats are 1-1 and will host Copiah-Lincoln at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
