WESSON – Jones County Junior College dropped a close, 5-4 match to Copiah-Lincoln Community College here Wednesday.
The final match did not end until 8:47 p.m. All of the matches began at 2 p.m.
Co-Lin won two of the three doubles' points.
Jacob Bozeman (Brookhaven) and
Luke Armstrong (Hartfield Academy) beat Hayes Thompson and Cole Moak in No. 3 doubles, 8-4. Sebastian Osorio and Juan Pablo Pinilla downed
Diego Leal (Colombia) and
Taqel Lewis (St. Lucia) in No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Tripp Case and Cory Alderman edged
Chase Pennington (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) and
Brandon McCary (Wayne County) in No. 2 doubles, 9-8 (7-3).
Pennington beat Thompson in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 7-6. Bozeman outlasted Case in No. 4 singles, 3-6, 7-6 (10), 12-10. McCary defeated Moak in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Osorio beat Lewis in No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7. Pinilla edged Leal in No. 2 singles, 2-6, 6-2, 11-9 and Alderman defeated Armstrong in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
In an extra match, Co-Lin's Sebastian Harrell downed
Jed Slover (Northeast Jones), 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.
The Bobcats are 5-3 on the season, while Co-Lin is 6-3.
JCJC's home match vs. Holmes scheduled for Thursday has been canceled by rain. The Bobcats will host Itawamba at 2 p.m. on Friday.
Co-Lin's match vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast on Thursday has been postponed by rain. The Wolves will go to Hinds on Monday.
