BRANDON – The Jones County Junior College men's tennis team edged Christian Brothers University 5-4 here Friday afternoon at the Reservoir YMCA.
JCJC took two of the doubles' points.
Taqel Lewis (St. Lucia) and
Diego Leal (Colombia) beat Austin Essary and Nick Wiseman in No. 1 doubles, 8-3.
Chase Pennington (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) and
Brandon McCary (Wayne County) beat Daniel D'Altro and Nick Cotros in No. 2 doubles, 8-6.
Jacob Bozeman (Brookhaven) and
Luke Armstrong (Hartfield Academy) lost an 8-5 decision to Abel Kim and Max Wilson in No. 3 doubles.
Lewis beat Wiseman in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Leal outlasted D'Altro in No. 2 singles, 6-7, 2-6, 10-4. Pennington beat Essary in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Bozeman fell to Kim in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4, Armstrong lost to Wilson in No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-2, and McCary dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Cotros in No. 6 singles.
In extra matches,
Jed Slover (Northeast Jones) beat Swamy Sriraman, 6-1, 6-2, and
Blake Taylor (Northwest Rankin) defeated Sebastian Guyarro.
The JCJC men are now 3-1, and will play March 20 at Meridian. The next home match will be March 30 vs. Holmes.
CBU is now 6-7 and plays Mississippi Gulf Coast and Hinds Saturday in Jackson.
