No. 17 Lady Bobcats in sole possession of first place after rout of Pearl River

ELLISVILLE – The No. 17 Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats never trailed and whipped Pearl River, 89-63, here in the 'Catfight on the Court' Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
It was the 13th straight win for JCJC, giving them an 18-1 overall record and a 9-1 mark in the MACJC South Division.
The Lady Bobcats are now in sole possession of first place after Hinds surprised Copiah-Lincoln, 78-61, on Thursday.
Alexis Tolefree (Conway, Arkansas) hit a 25-footer to put Jones up 20-10 with 2:44 left in the first quarter. Pearl River's Shelanita Starks hit two free throws to make it 20-14 at 1:57.
But Myyah West (Prentiss) scored and Tolefree followed with two layups and a 3-pointer to give the Lady Bobcats a 29-14 lead after the first quarter.
Nique Cherry's (Heidelberg) basket at 8:34 of the second quarter ended a 15-0 run and gave JCJC a 35-14 lead. The Lady Bobcats took their longest lead of the opening half at 45-22 with 2:34 left when K.K. Tassin (Terry) hit a 3-pointer.
JCJC led 47-27 at halftime.
Tatyana Lofton's (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) 15-footer gave JCJC a 54-30 lead with 6:12 left in the third quarter.
Pearl River responded with 10 straight points and trimmed the lead to 54-40 with 2:57 left in the third quarter when Kyla Malone made a 3-pointer.
The Lady Bobcats would take a 65-45 lead into the final quarter and the Lady Wildcats would never get any closer.
JCJC's longest lead would be at 75-47 at 7:50 when Kyle Felton (Lithonia, Georgia) scored and 77-49 at 5:50 on a Kira Bonner (Quitman) basket.
Tolefree and Cherry had 16 points each, with Tolefree getting four 3-pointers. Tassin added 15 – all on 3-pointers - and Zan Ratcliffe (West Jones) had 11. JCJC finished with 12 3-pointers.
Rehema Franklin was the only PRCC player in double figures with 18 points.
The Lady Wildcats are now 9-8 overall and 2-8 in the division.
JCJC travels to Southwest for a 5:30 p.m. game on Monday.
Pearl River entertains Hinds on Monday.
