PERKINSTON – The 16th-rated Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats never trailed as they whipped Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 76-51 here Thursday night at a packed Weathers/Wentzell Center.
It was the 15th straight win for the Lady Bobcats.
JCJC is now 20-1 overall and 11-1 in the South Division. The Lady Bobcats hold a one-game lead over Copiah-Lincoln with two games to play.
Leading 7-6 with just less than three minutes to play in the first quarter, JCJC took command with a 15-0 run.
Alexis Tolefree (Conway, Arkansas) made two free throws to give JCJC a 12-6 lead with 21 seconds to play in the first quarter. She then hit a 3-pointer to cap the run and put the Lady Bobcats up 22-6 with 7:18 left in the first half.
A layup by
Myyah West (Prentiss) with 26 seconds to play gave Jones its longest lead of the first half at 35-17. Jones led 35-18 at halftime.
It was more of the same in the third quarter.
Kira Bonner's (Quitman) two free throws with 3:58 showing put JCJC up, 50-25.
The Lady Bobcats led 61-28 after three quarters.
Madison Bishop's (Collegiate Christian Academy) 18-footer to start the final quarter Jones its longest lead of the night at 63-28 with 9:26 to play.
MGCCC never got closer than the final margin.
Tolefree led Jones with 16 points.
Nique Cherry (Heidelberg) and
Tatyana Lofton (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) added 11 each.
Shaniqua Tobias led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 points.
MGCCC drops to 7-14 overall and 1-11 in the division.
JCJC will host East Central at 5:30 p.m. Monday for "Sophomore Night." The game will be webcast on www.jcjc.tv.
The Lady Bulldogs go to Pearl River on Monday.
