No. 17 Lady Bobcats post 14th straight victory

SUMMIT –  The 17th-rated Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats won their 14th straight game with a 74-55 decision over Southwest Mississippi here Monda night at Holmes Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats are now 19-1 overall and 10-1 in MACJC South Division play and hold a one-game lead over Copiah-Lincoln.
A 21-6 advantage in the second quarter was decisive for Jones.
The Lady Bears came out hot and took a 14-4 lead with 3:21 left in the first quarter when Alissa Adam connected on a 3-pointer.
JCJC trimmed the lead to 18-15 at the end of the quarter when Kyle Felton (Lithonia, Georgia) scored with :07 showing.
Alexis Tolefree (Conway, Arkansas) then tied the game at 18-18 with 9:30 left in the second quarter on a 3-pointer and Tatyana Lofton (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) would give JCJC the lead for good at 20-18 on a layup with 8:21 showing.
The Lady Bobcats were up 24-22 midway through the second quarter and outscored Southwest 12-2 down the stretch to take a 36-24 halftime lead. Tolefree hit two 3-pointers in the final 38 seconds of the half.
Danyelle Lewis hit a 3-pointer with 8:14 left in the third quarter to pull Southwest to within 36-29, but they would get no closer.
K.K. Tassin's (Terry) 3-pointer put JCJC up 43-29 with 5:41 left in the third quarter and the Lady Bobcats would take a 51-36 lead into the final period.
Keturah Bingham's scoop shot at 6:18 got Southwest to within 56-47, but that was the last time they would be within single digits.
JCJC outscored Southwest 14-4 over the next 4:45 and took a 70-51 lead with just 1:33 to play when Kira Bonner (Quitman) scored off a behind the back assist pass from Tolefree.
The Lady Bobcats' longest lead came at 74-53 with 22 seconds left on a putback by Nique Cherry (Heidelberg).
Tolefree led Jones with 21 points, including four 3-pointers. Lofton added 11 and Myyah West (Prentiss) finished with 10.
Bingham had 18 points and Lewis had 11 for the Lady Bears.
Southwest is now 16-4 overall and 7-4 in division play.
The Lady Bobcats travel to Mississippi Gulf Coast for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff on Thursday.
Southwest will host Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday.
