ELLISVILLE – The 9
th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats took care of business here Tuesday evening.
JCJC led by as many as 39 points before downing Coastal Alabama-North, 100-73.
The victory sets up a huge showdown between Top Ten teams on Thursday in A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats will host No. 3 and 8-0 Shelton State (Alabama) in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. The men's game will immediately follow and both games will air on
www.jcjc.tv.
Coastal Alabama-North, 0-9, hosts Lawson State College (Alabama) Saturday in Monroeville, Alabama.
The Lady Bobcats never trailed in disposing of the Lady Eagles.
JCJC was up 14-9 midway through the first quarter and took command with a 16-0 run. Two K.K. Tassin (Terry) free throws at 1:54 gave Jones a 30-9 lead. The Lady Bobcats were up 30-14 after the first quarter.
The Lady Bobcats led 45-28 with just over three minutes left in the second quarter. Two Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) free throws gave JCJC a 53-30 lead with 1:59 left in the first half. Jones was up 59-33 at halftime.
Tassin's 3-pointer with 4:52 left in the third quarter gave Jones a 74-41 advantage. Madison Bishop's (Collegiate Christian) two free throws with .6 seconds showing gave JCJC its biggest lead of the period at 86-49.
Bishop's layup off a Ducksworth assist gave the Lady Bobcats its longest lead of the game at 93-54 with 6:38 left. Bishop's two free throws with 9.9 seconds remaining got the Lady Bobcats up to the century mark.
Nique Cherry (Heidelberg) recorded her fourth 'double-double' in as many games. led JCJC with 18 points and 15 rebounds. She had 16 in the first half and played just a few minutes in the third quarter. Alexis Tolefree (Conway, Arkansas) and Camryn London (Birmingham, Alabama) had 13 points each and Tassin finished with 10.
Chrystal Ezechukwu (Stone Mountain, Georgia) came off the bench to score 9 points and pull down 9 rebounds. Tassin had 5 assists and Tolefree added 4.
Shanda Pugh had 19 points with Charlissa Wellington adding 13 and Regine Parker scoring 12.
