POPLARVILLE – Pearl River scored almost nine minutes into overtime and defeated Jones County 2-1 here Tuesday evening.
PRCC's game-winner came when Kaylee Fountain scored on a lengthy shot after an assist by Mia Richards.
The Lady Wildcats had taken a 1-0 lead at 24:45 when Abbi Henderson made a penalty kick.
JCJC tied the game at 1-1 at 81:23 when
Mikayla Banks (Vicksburg) scored off an assist by
Judith Verdaguer (Barcelona, Spain).
Mia Holmes (Brandon) played the first half in goal for JCJC and
Caroline Runion (Madison Central) played the remainder of the game.
JCJC is now 8-2-1 and ends division play at 6-1-1.
The Lady Bobcats, the MACJC South Division champion, will now participate in the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament Oct. 28-29 at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.
JCJC will play the winner of the Oct. 24 first-round playoff game between Mississippi Gulf Coast and Itawamba at 5 p.m. on Oct. 28. The winner of that game will play for the championship at 4 p.m. on Oct. 29.
Pearl River is 8-0-4 overall and finishes second in the division at 5-0-3. They will host Northwest on Oct. 24 in a first-round playoff game.
