ELLISVILLE – The No. 25 Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats smothered Southwest Mississippi 82-40 here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats are now 12-1 overall and 3-1 in the MACJC South Division. It was JCJC's seventh straight win.
Southwest scored the game's first basket at 8:45.
The Lady Bobcats then scored the game's next 21 points to take control. An 8-footer by
Myyah West (Prentiss) gave JCJC a 21-2 lead with 1:28 left in the first quarter. The Lady Bobcats led 21-7 after the first quarter.
Jones took a 29-11 lead with 6:29 left in the first half when
Juliet Esadah (Warri, Nigeria) made a free throw. Southwest pulled within 33-20 at 3:10 when Rachel Thompson made two free throws.
JCJC then closed the half with a 16-2 run – highlighted by two
K.K. Tassin (Terry) 3-pointers and a 3-point play by Tassin – to take a commanding 49-22 halftime lead.
It was more of the same in the third quarter.
Alexis Tolefree's (Conway, Arkansas) 28-footer gave Jones a 66-29 lead with 1:44 showing. The Lady Bobcats took a 68-33 lead into the fourth quarter.
JCJC scored the first 13 points of the final quarter, taking an 81-33 lead with 6:52 left when Esadah made two free throws.
Tassin pace JCJC with 18 points. West added 12, while Tolefree and
Nique Cherry (Heidelberg) had 10 points each.
Alissa Adam led Southwest with 16 points. The Lady Bears are now 11-2 overall and 2-2 in the division.
The Bobcats return home on Monday to host Mississippi Gulf Coast. The women's game starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m. Both games will air on
