No. 13 Bobcats hammer Coahoma, 38-6

ELLISVILLE – The 13th-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats put together another workmanlike effort here Thursday night at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field.
JCJC limited Coahoma to only 11 yards net rushing and 126 yards of total offense en route to a 38-6 decision over the Tigers.
Offensively, freshman running back Scott Phillips (South Jones) rushed 25 times for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The Bobcats are now 3-0 and will open MACJC South Division play at Copiah-Lincoln next week. The Bobcats meet the 3rd-ranked Wolves at 7 p.m. on Sept. 22 and the game will air on www.jcjc.tv. Co-Lin dropped a 21-7 decision to Mississippi Gulf Coast on Thursday.
The Bobcat defense forced 21 plays for negative yardage vs. the Tigers, including three bad snaps on punts, which led to two safeties and other scoring opportunities for JCJC.
On Coahoma's second possession, the Tigers faced a fourth and 8 at their own 18-yard line. The ball was snapped over punter Brady Burse's head and through the end zone for a safety, giving JCJC a 2-0 lead with 10:26 left in the first quarter.
The Bobcats took over after the ensuing free kick at its own 48-yard line.
Nine plays later, Phillips ended the 52-yard drive with a 2-yard run. Brady Farlow's (Purvis) conversion made it 9-0 with 7:22 left in the first quarter. The big play in the drive came when Jones faced a fourth and 2 at the Coahoma 16 and Phillips came through with a 14-yard run.
Coahoma's only score came late in the first quarter when quarterback Rodney English kept the ball on an option play and scampered 54 yards for a touchdown. The run ended an 80-yard, five-play drive. The extra point attempt was blocked and the Bobcats led 9-6 with :35 showing on the clock.
JCJC would take advantage of another high snap on a punt attempt for its next touchdown.
Coahoma had a fourth and 3 at its own 37, but the snap sailed over Burse's head all the way back to the 10.
On the next play, Phillips scored on a 10-yard run. Farlow's extra point made it 16-6 with 7:28 left in the first half.
Bobcat Kendall Parham (Oak Grove) returned the second half kickoff 25 yards to his own 49. Eight plays later, Farlow booted a 46-yard field goal to give JCJC a 19-6 lead with 11:50 left in the third quarter.
JCJC then forced a 22-yard punt and took over at the Coahoma 36. Seven plays later, Farlow kicked a 29-yard field goal and the Bobcats led 22-6 with 7:38 left in the third quarter.
On Coahoma's next possession, the Tigers had a fourth and 23 from their own 12. This time, there was a low snap, Burse could not field it cleanly and the Bobcats tackled him in the end zone for another safety to give JCJC a 24-6 lead with 5:01 remaining in the third quarter.
JCJC's next touchdown came on a 57-yard, six-play drive.
Quarterback Detric Hawthorn (Collins) scored on a 7-yard keeper on a third and goal play. Farlow's extra point gave Jones a 31-6 lead with 9:00 remaining to play. A 30-yard run by Phillips was the big play of the drive.
The Bobcats ended the scoring with a 92-yard, six-play march.
Rashaud Green (Bassfield) went into the end zone from 6 yards out and Farlow added the conversion with 7:26 left. A 74-yard pass from Hawthorn to Jeriko Morris (Crystal Springs) was the key play of the drive.
Morris ended the game with 105 yards on three receptions.
Coahoma (0-3) begins MACJC North Division play next week at home vs. Holmes.
