ELLISVILLE – The 20th-rated Jones County Junior College men's tennis team blanked Itawamba 9-0 here Tuesday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
It was the sixth straight victory for the Bobcats as they improved to 11-4 on the season. ICC dropped to 3-8.
In No. 1 doubles,
Taqel Lewis and
Diego Leal beat Mark Robbins and Brian Donnieal, 8-4.
Chase Pennington and
Taylor Tamberg whipped Jacob Bozeman and Dexter Clay in No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
Luke Armstrong and
Josh Hester downed Lane Brandon and Cameron Shumpert in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Lewis beat Robbins in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Leal downed Donnieal in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 7-5. Pennington defeated Bozeman in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Tamberg beat Clay in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Armstrong downed Brandon in No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-4. Hester defeated Shumpert in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Itawamba falls to 3-8 on the season.
JCJC is scheduled to play its final home regular season match at 2 p.m. on April 14 vs. Copiah-Lincoln and will end the regular season at 11 a.m. on April 16 at Meridian.
Itawamba hosts Meridian on April 15 to end regular season play.
The MACJC/Region 23 Tournament will be April 20-23 at Mississippi Gulf Coast.
