GOODMAN – The 20th-ranked Jones County Junior College men's tennis team whipped Holmes 9-0 here Tuesday afternoon.
The Bobcats are now 6-4 on the season, while Holmes falls to 2-14.
Taqel Lewis and
Diego Leal beat Owen Taylor and Nick Robertson in No. 1 doubles, 8-3.
Chase Pennington and
Taylor Tamberg defeated Corey Warren and Matthew Philley in No. 2 doubles, 8-2.
Luke Armstrong and
Josh Hester downed Matthew Dubourg and Fred Johnson in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Lewis blanked Taylor in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Leal whipped Robertson in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Pennington defeated Warren in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1, and Tamberg downed Philley in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Armstrong beat Dubourg in No.5 singles, 6-4, 6-0, and Hester defeated Johnson in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
JCJC's
Blake Taylor beat Matt Thornton in an extra match, 8-2.
Also, JCJC's Pennington and Taylor completed matches that were suspended by rain when Holmes played at JCJC on March 17.
Pennington beat Warren, 6-0, 6-3, and Taylor defeated Philley, 6-1, 6-0. Those two matches completed an 8-1 victory for the Bobcats.
JCJC travels to Northeast for a 1:30 p.m. match on April 1 and to Itawamba for a 10:30 a.m. match on April 2. The Bobcats will host Mississippi Gulf Coast at 2 p.m. on April 5.
Holmes hosts Copiah-Lincoln on April 5.
