ELLISVILLE – The 14th-ranked Meridian Community College Eagles edged No. 20 Jones County, 5-4, here Tuesday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
The Bobcats are now 5-4, while Meridian improves to 14-0.
JCJC opened the match by winning two of the three doubles' points, Meridian rebounded to win four of the six singles' matches.
JCJC's
Chase Pennington and
Taylor Tamberg beat Sam Butler and Reed Kasper in No. 2 doubles, 8-2.
Luke Armstrong and
Josh Hester edged Noah James and John Taylor Champion in No. 3 doubles, 8-6.
Meridian's Jason Pimenta and Breno Goncalves beat
Diego Leal and
Taqel Lewis in No.1 doubles, 8-2.
In No. 2 singles, Leal whipped Goncalves, 6-1, 6-1. In No. 3 singles, Pennington defeated James, 7-5, 6-2.
Pimenta downed Lewis in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Butler beat Tamberg in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3. MCC's Will Irvin defeated Armstrong in No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Champion won No. 6 singles over Hester, 6-3, 6-3.
The Bobcats will head to Holmes on March 29. JCJC travels to Northeast on April 1 and Itawamba on April 2.
Meridian goes to Millsaps on Thursday and to Copiah-Lincoln on March 29.
