ELLISVILLE – The No. 23 Jones County Junior College men's tennis team clinched a win over Holmes here Thursday at the Howard Sports Complex/Bobcat Tennis Courts.
The Bobcats led 6-1 when heavy rain suspended the match. Jones, now 4-3, has clinched the win and the teams will complete the match on March 29 when JCJC travels to Holmes.
Taqel Lewis and
Diego Leal defeated Owen Taylor and Nick Robertson in No. 1 doubles, 8-3.
John Leggett and
Josh Hester took No. 3 doubles over Matthew DeBourg and Fred Johnson, 8-3. Holmes' Corey Warren and Matthew Philley defeated JCJC's
Chase Pennington and
Taylor Tamberg in No. 2 doubles, 8-5.
Lewis whipped Taylor in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, and Leal defeated Robertson in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Leggett downed DeBourg in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3, and Hester blanked Johnson in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
In the suspended matches, Pennington led Warren in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 2-1, and Tamberg was ahead of Philley, 6-1, 2-0.
The Bobcats will head to Northwest for a 2 p.m. match on March 19 and will host Meridian at 2 p.m. on March 22.
Holmes, 1-10, hosts Itawamba on March 21.
