DECATUR – The 23rd-ranked Jones County Junior College men's tennis team edged East Central 5-4 here Wednesday afternoon.
The match featured several lengthy singles matches. Jones won two of the doubles' points and split the singles' matches to claim the win.
JCJC's Taquel Lewis and
Diego Leal won No. 1 doubles over John Jimenez and Will Stewart, 8-6. JCJC's
Chase Pennington and
Taylor Tamberg took No. 2 doubles over Darin Skinner and Brandon Rogers, 8-5. ECCC's Cole Duty and Alex Chapman defeated JCJC's
Luke Armstrong and
Josh Hester in No. 3 doubles, 8-6.
Leal defeated Stewart in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3, while Pennington whipped Duty in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Tamberg rallied to beat Skinner in No. 4 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6.
Jimenez edged Lewis in No. 1 singles, 1-6, 6-2, 10-7. Rogers outlasted Armstrong in No. 5 singles, 5-7, 6-3, 13-11 and Graham Murphree edged Hester in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8.
JCJC, 3-3, is scheduled to host Holmes at 2 p.m. on March 17, travel to Northwest at 2 p.m. on March 19 and host Meridian at 2 p.m. on March 22.
East Central, 2-8, will host Northeast on March 29.
