ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College clinched a berth in the MACJC Tournament with a 93-71 victory over Pearl River here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats placed six players in double figures and led wire-to-wire as they improved to 15-5 overall.
JCJC is now 8-3 in the MACJC South Division and is tied with Copiah-Lincoln for third place. East Central leads the division at 10-1, while Southwest is 9-2.
In Monday's victory,
Tatyana Lofton and
Hanah Lott each scored 15 points for JCJC, while
Ashailee Brailey added 14.
Wendion Bibbins,
Aliyah Bell and
Dana Brown added 10 points each.
The Lady Bobcats scored the first nine points of the game and went up 23-8 when Bell scored with 2:13 left in the first quarter. JCJC led 26-16 after the first quarter.
The Lady Bobcats continued to roll in the second quarter, taking a 44-26 lead with 3:50 left in the first half when
Kanisha Tharpe scored off an offensive rebound. JCJC led 45-30 at halftime.
JCJC's longest lead of the third quarter came at the 3:39 mark when Lott scored via an assist by Lofton. The Lady Bobcats led 70-47 after three quarters.
The Lady Bobcats took their longest lead with 2:32 left in the game at 91-63 when
Patrice Tate made a free throw.
JCJC was 35-of-73 from the field, including an 11-of-22 effort from 3-point range, for 48 percent. They were 12-of-19 from the free throw line.
Pearl River received 20 points from Tiara Warren, 17 from Akayla Powell, 14 from Asia Thibodeaux and 13 from Shaniqua Magee.
The Lady Wildcats were 24-of-62 from the field (10-of-21 from the 3-point line) for 39 percent. PRCC was 13-of-19 from the foul line.
Bibbins had 13 rebounds, while Tharpe pulled down 11 boards and West had 10 rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats will host Meridian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The game will air on

Pearl River is now 6-13 overall and 3-8 in division play. The Lady Wildcats visit Mississippi Gulf Coast on Thursday.
