Fourth quarter surge lifts Lady Wolves past JCJC

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln outscored Jones County 22-3 over the final 7:14 of the game en route to a victory 68-55 here Thursday night at Mullen Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats had taken a 52-46 lead when Wendion Bibbins scored. But JCJC would not score again until a 3-pointer by Ashailee Brailey with 37.3 seconds left. By that time, Co-Lin was in command, leading 64-55.
The Lady Bobcats fall to 14-5 overall and 7-3 in the MACJC South Division. Co-Lin is now 17-2 overall and 8-2 in league play.
The Lady Wolves led 12-8 after the first quarter and went up 16-11 with 8:56 left in the first half when Andreal Fleming scored. But JCJC came back and would take a 26-24 halftime lead when Bibbins scored in the final minute of the half.
JCJC extended the lead to 42-34 with 3:18 left in the third quarter when Brailey hit a 15-footer. The Lady Bobcats would lead 46-40 after the third quarter.
Tatyana Lofton's layup to start the final quarter made it 48-40, which matched JCJC's longest lead.
But Co-Lin rallied and took the lead for good at 54-52 with 4:27 remaining when Jamilah Sanders converted a 3-point play. Princess Cohen's two free throws with 48.3 seconds remaining capped an 18-0 run by the Lady Wolves and made it 64-52.
Bibbins led JCJC with 18 points, while Lofton added 13. Myyah West had nine rebounds, while Bibbins had seven. Lofton had five assists and Bibbins finished with three steals.
Cohen paced Co-Lin with 22 points and nine rebounds. Sanders and Fleming added 14 points each.
JCJC was 21-of-50 from the field (2-of-10 from 3-point range) for 42 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 11-of-15 from the free throw line.
Co-Lin was 22-of-50 from the floor (3-of-12 from 3-point range) for 42 percent. The Lady Wolves were 21-of-26 from the free throw line.
Co-Lin outrebounded JCJC, 36-24. JCJC committed 14 turnovers compared to 13 for Co-Lin.
The Lady Bobcats return home to face Pearl River at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The game will air on www.jcjc.tv.
Co-Lin travels to East Central on Monday.
