ELLISVILLE – The No. 23 Jones County Junior College men's tennis team defeated East Central 7-2 here Thursday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts
Taquel Lewis edged John Jimenez in No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 and
Diego Leal whipped Will Stewart in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Chase Pennington won No. 3 singles over Cole Duty, 7-5, 6-1 and
Taylor Tamberg took No. 4 singles over Devin Skinner, 6-3, 6-4.
Luke Armstrong claimed No. 5 singles over Brandon Rogers, 6-3, 6-3 and
Josh Hester beat Graham Murphree in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Lewis and Leal won No. 1 doubles over Jimenez and Stewart, 8-5. Pennington and Armstrong lost a close match to Skinner and Rogers in No. 2 doubles, 9-8 (4). Tamberg and Hester fell 8-3 in No. 3 doubles to Duty and Alex Chapman.
The Bobcats are now 2-1 and will travel to Copiah-Lincoln for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday.
East Central, 1-5, hosts Hinds on Friday.
