ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College men's tennis team whipped Hinds 9-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
In No. 1 singles,
Taqel Lewis beat Daniel Yepez, 6-1, 6-0, while
Diego Leal downed Chris Crapps, 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.
Chase Pennington defeated Matthew Burks in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-4, and
Taylor Tamberg beat Ryan Wheeless in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Luke Armstrong beat Landon Young, 6-4, 6-4, in No. 5 singles and
Josh Hester whipped Trace Myers in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Lewis and Leal defeated Yepez and Crapps 8-4 in No. 1 doubles, Pennington and Armstrong beat Burks and Young in No. 2 doubles, 8-4, and Tamberg and Hester downed Wheeless and Myers in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
In an extra doubles match, JCJC's Josh Leggett and
Brandon McCary edged Victor Villareall and Hayden Hendon, 9-7.
In an extra singles' match, JCJC's
Peyton Ramsey beat Hendon, 8-2. In other extra singles' matches, Hinds' Daniel Luck edged Leggett, 9-7; Myers beat
Blake Taylor, 8-6; and Villareall defeated McCary, 8-5.
JCJC, 1-1, visits Copiah-Lincoln for a 2 p.m. match on Monday and they host East Central at 2 p.m. on Feb. 25.
Hinds will host Holmes on Saturday morning.
