No. 10 Lady Bobcats capture MACJC/Region 23 Tournament titles!

PERKINSTON – The 10th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats achieved one of their major goals here Sunday afternoon.
JCJC downed Holmes 6-1 in the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament championship game at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Soccer Complex.
It was third state championship for JCJC head coach Dolores Deasley. Jones also won championships in 2010 and 2013.
Deasley was named Region 23 Coach of the Year after Sunday's victory.
The Lady Bobcats, 15-1, will now travel to Melbourne, Florida, to take on No. 8 Eastern Florida State College in the NJCAA District H playoff game. The winner of that game will advance to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament, which will be held in Melbourne Nov. 14-19.
JCJC was dominant in the state tournament, outscoring the opposition, 12-2. They beat Pearl River on Saturday in the semifinals, also by a 6-1 score.
Against Holmes, Jones got the game's first goal at 18:31 when Rachel McConnell (Portadown, Ireland) scored off an assist by Mary Kate Smith (South Jones).
The Lady Bobcats took a 2-0 lead on Kelly Stubbington's (London, England) 25-yard free kick that went into the net just below the crossbar at 23:34.
JCJC's Shannon Durkin (Barnsley, England) scored on a penalty kick at 67:03 to make it 3-0.
Holmes' scored at 69:31 on a Bailey Harper goal with the assist going to Sarah Donahoo.
But JCJC quickly answered at 70:42 when Ashleigh Lewis (London, England) scored with Durkin getting the assist.
The Lady Bobcats went up 5-1 at 75:54 when Smith scored off an assist by Marcie Napier (Laurel Christian School).
Smith scored the game's final goal at 88:41 with Lewis getting the assist.
Brittney Snyder (Biloxi) was in goal for the first half for JCJC and Mia Holmes (Brandon) played the second half.
JCJC has won nine straight games since a 4-1 loss to No. 7 Tyler Junior College (Texas) on Sept. 23.
The Lady Bobcats have outscored their opponents 91-10 this season and have recorded 10 shutouts.
Holmes ends the season at 14-2.
