ELLISVILLE – The new year has been kind to the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats.
After posting a 60-58 win over MACJC North Division-leading Itawamba last week, the Lady Bobcats whipped previously unbeaten and No. 17 rated Copiah-Lincoln, 90-67, here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
It was the eighth straight victory for JCJC. The Lady Bobcats are now 10-2 overall and are tied with Southwest for the top in the MACJC South Division at 3-0.
Co-Lin falls to 11-1 overall, 2-1 in division play. It was the first time the Lady Wolves had lost a regular season game since the 2013-14 season.
The game was close early.
The lead swapped sides six times in the first quarter. Co-Lin's Debraia Bell hit a shot to give the Lady Wolves its final lead of the game at 17-16 with 57 seconds left in the first quarter.
Myyah West's two free throws with 20.8 seconds showing gave JCJC the lead for good at 19-17 and her basket with two seconds left gave the Lady Bobcats a 21-17 lead after the first quarter.
Hanah Lott's basket put JCJC up 27-19 with 6:54 remaining in the first half. Co-Lin's Danisha Davis hit a 3-pointer with 5:07 left in the half to make it 31-26, but that was as close as the Lady Wolves would get.
The Lady Bobcats closed the half on a 13-6 run, capped by two
Wendion Bibbins' free throws with 22 seconds showing, and took a 44-32 halftime lead.
JCJC's
Zan Ratcliffe made a free throw with 6:06 left in the third quarter to give the Lady Bobcats a 55-37 lead.
Ashailee Brailey's layup with 1:16 left gave Jones a 64-46 lead. The Lady Bobcats led 64-50 after three quarters.
Co-Lin's Tytiana Hall scored the first basket of the fourth quarter, but the Lady Wolves would get not closer. A Bibbins' free throw made it 73-52 with 6:55 left and
Joy Powell's 3-pointer with 26 seconds remaining ended the scoring and gave JCJC its longest lead of the evening.
Bibbins paced JCJC with 22 points, while Lott added 20,
Tatyana Lofton had 17 and West had 11. Bibbins also had 13 rebounds and dished out three assists. West added six rebounds, while Lott had six assists.
Kelley Allen had 15 for Co-Lin with Hall and Davis scoring 13 each. Alexis Collins added 12 and Princess Cohen had 10.
The Lady Bobcats shot the ball well from the floor, connecting on 36-of-60 shots (4-of-15 from 3-point range) for 60 percent. JCJC as 14-of21-from the free throw line.
JCJC outrebounded Co-Lin, 41-25.
Co-Lin was 28-of-69 from the field (1-of-13 from 3-point range) for 40.6 percent. The Lady Wolves were 10-of-11 from the free throw line. JCJC continues league play with a 5:30 p.m. game Thursday at Pearl River. Co-Lin hosts East Central on Thursday.
