ELLISVILLE – Tyra Gibson's putback with 8.1 seconds left lifted the unbeaten and 25
th-ranked Co-Lin Community College to a 93-92 win over Jones County Junior College here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
It was the only lead of the evening for the Lady Wolves, as Co-Lin outscored JCJC 17-2 over the game's final 2:44.
The loss spoiled a magnificent 38-point performance by JCJC's
Taylor Baudoin.
JCJC led for almost the full 40 minutes, but could not hold on, despite Baudoin's effort.
The loss drops JCJC to 12-6 overall, 6-4 in division play.
Kadie Parker's layup gave the Lady Bobcats a 90-76 lead with 2:44 left.
After Co-Lin's Jamilah Sanders made a free throw with 2:35 left, the Lady Bobcats turned the ball over. Kelley Allen would then score and Baudoin would foul out of the game on the play. Allen made the free throw and JCJC led 90-80 with 2:32 left.
Co-Lin would later get a steal and layup by Claresa Banks to make it 90-87 with 1:47 to play.
JCJC's final points came with 1:36 left when Parker scored to make it 92-87.
Co-Lin's Arnissayur Robinson scored with 44.8 seconds left to trim the lead to 92-89. After a steal, Banks was fouled and made two free throws with 23.9 seconds remaining to make it 92-91.
Parker was then fouled and missed the front end of a one-and-one with 17.3 seconds to play.
The Lady Wolves would get the ball down court and miss a shot, but Gibson was there for the rebound and scored to put Co-Lin up by a point.
After a timeout, JCJC inbounded the ball to
Starla Daggans, who dribbled just past midcourt and called time with 2.7 seconds to play. The Lady Bobcats then inbounded the ball to
Alyson Johnson, but she was called for a travel with 1.0 seconds left near midcourt and Co-Lin had completed the comeback.
JCJC jumped out to a 21-9 lead with 14:33 left in the first half when
Aliyah Bell made two free throws. JCJC led 43-33 with 5:50 left when Baudoin made two free throws. Two free shots by Daggans gave the Lady Bobcats a 49-37 lead with 3:30 left in the first half.
The Lady Bobcats led 54-48 at halftime.
JCJC took a 65-52 lead with 16:03 remaining when Bell scored. Co-Lin cut the lead to 75-71 with 7:00 remaining when Jordan Lumpkins scored off an offensive rebound.
But the Lady Bobcats went on a 15-5 run to go up 14 in the game's final three minutes before the Lady Wolves rallied.
Baudoin, a 6-foot freshman from New Hope, was 14-of-23 from the field and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. She also had a game-high 12 rebounds. Daggans had 13 points and 8 rebounds, while Bell and Johnson had 12 points each and Parker finished with 11. Bell finished with five assists.
Banks led Co-Lin, 19-0 overall and 10-0 in the division, with 20 points. Allen had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Sanders and Alexis Collins had 14 points each, while Gibson finished with 11.
JCJC was 36-of-79 from the field, including 3-of-12 from 3-point range, for 46 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 17-of-22 from the free throw line.
Co-Lin was 36-of-73 from the field, including 3-of-16 from 3-point range, for 58 percent. The Lady Wolves were 18-of-27 from 3-point range.
JCJC outrebounded Co-Lin, 46-36. The Lady Bobcats committed 26 turnovers, compared to 20 for the Lady Wolves.
JCJC resumes MACJC South Division play on Monday at Pearl River. The women's game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7 p.m.
Co-Lin hosts East Central on Monday.
