Lady Bobcats defeat Holmes, 75-65

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats never trailed in defeating Holmes Community College 75-65 here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Wendion Bibbins scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace JCJC, 2-1. Tatyana Lofton added 12 points and Aliyah Bell added 10. Bell also added six rebounds and led the team with four steals. Hanah Lott had four assists.
Jones jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Holmes tied the game at 5-5. JCJC took the lead for good at 8-5 on a 3-point play by Myyah West with 2:03 left in the first quarter.
Leading 20-16 midway through the second quarter, the Lady Bobcats went on a 15-3 run and went up 35-19 with 1:38 left when Ashailee Brailey hit a 15-footer. JCJC would lead 40-24 at halftime.
The Lady Bobcats took its longest lead of the game at 56-36 with 3:35 left in the third quarter when Bibbins made two free throws.
But Holmes would rally. The Lady Bulldogs pulled within 63-59 with 5:13 remaining in the game when Kawaii Perry hit an 18-footer.
JCJC quickly answered with consecutive baskets by Bell, Tatyana Lofton and Hanah Lott to take a 69-59 lead with 3:18 left. The closest Holmes would get would be 71-63 with 41 seconds left on a putback by Cortrice Golden.
Aja Williams led the Lady Bulldogs, 1-2, with 28 points.
JCJC was 25-of-66 from the field (3-of-17 from 3-point range) for 38 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 22-of-30 from the free throw line.
Holmes was 24-of-69 from the floor (2-of-17 from 3-point range) for 35 percent. The Lady Bulldogs were 15-of-29 from the foul line.
The Lady Bobcats outrebounded Holmes, 48-42.
JCJC will host Itawamba at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The game will air on www.jcjc.tv.
Holmes hosts Pearl River on Nov. 16.
