Lady Bobcats fall to Pearl River in 2OT in South Division deciding match

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River scored just 20 seconds into the second overtime to defeat No. 18 Jones County Junior College 2-1 here Tuesday night at the Pearl River Soccer Complex.
The win gives Pearl River the MACJC South Division title with a 9-1 record. JCJC finishes second at 8-2.
The Lady Bobcats will host the North's No. 3 team – Holmes – either Monday or Tuesday in an MACJC/Region 23 Tournament quarterfinal matchup. The winner advances to the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at Hinds Community College in Raymond. Pearl River earns a bye into the Oct. 31 semifinals.
The Lady Bobcats scored first in Tuesday's match. Kelly Stubbington scored at the 31:52 mark off a Marcie Napier assist to give JCJC a 1-0 lead.
Pearl River tied the game in the second half at 56:36 on a Lyndsey Lee goal.
The Lady Wildcats won the game at 100:20 when Delaney Gustafson scored.
Pearl River was credited with 17 shots, 12 shots on goal. JCJC took 12 shots, including nine shots on goal.
Holly Pike played the entire game for the Lady Bobcats in goal and was credited with 10 saves. Shelby Koon was the keeper for PRCC and had eight saves.
The contest was very similar to Sept. 18 matchup between the two teams in Ellisville.
In that game, Pearl River scored first and led for most of the game until JCJC tied it in the final minute. The Lady Bobcats then won the game 2-1 in the second overtime.
JCJC is now 11-3 on the season, while Pearl River is 13-1.
