Bobcats fall 38-13 to Hinds

RAYMOND – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats had a difficult time slowing down the Hinds Community College Eagles here Thursday night.
The Eagles jumped out to a 25-0 halftime lead and went on to beat the Bobcats 38-13 to cap Homecoming festivities at Joe Renfroe Stadium.
The Bobcats fall to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the MACJC South Division. Hinds is now 5-3 and 3-2.
JCJC got a 58-yard rushing effort from Jarkice Davis. Davis also had 45 receiving yards. Wide receiver Carlos Burse had nine receptions for 74 yards.
Quarterback Thad Miller, who had missed last week's game vs. East Central because of a concussion, started for the Bobcats and went 4-7-0 for 39 yards. But he was knocked out of the game late in the first quarter and replaced by Kelvin Bourrage, who went 14-26-1 for 139 yards.
Defensively, end Markel Winters recorded four quarterback sacks, recovered a fumble and blocked an extra point for the Bobcats. Linebacker Ty Hill had eight tackles, while end Javarious Tanner had seven tackles, one quarterback sack and one tackle for loss. Jamal Blackwell and Denver Magee each had pass interceptions.
For Hinds, wide receiver Javon Wims had 10 receptions for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
Quarterback TR Page was 12 of 20 for 162 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 62 yards and two scores. Quarterback Jaquez Parks was 8-of-10 for 122 yards and three touchdowns.
JCJC finished with 20 first downs with 15 of those coming in the second half. The Bobcats had 274 yards of offense, gaining 222 yards in the second half.
Hinds had 21 first downs with 15 of those coming in the first half. The Eagles ended the game with 467 yards of total offense, with 341 yards coming in the first half.
The Bobcats had a chance to score first when Winters recovered a fumble at the Eagle 38-yard line. JCJC gained a first down, but turned the ball over on downs at the Hinds' 29.
The Eagles then drove to the JCJC 24, but Blackwell came up with an interception and JCJC took over at its 36.
The Bobcats moved to the Hinds' 36 and would face a third and 10. But Miller fell down while trying to pass and an Eagle player came down on him. Miller would be unable to return to the game.
Hinds would then drive 84 yards in 12 plays for the game's first score. Page scored on a 5-yard keeper where he leaped into the end zone for the touchdown. The extra point was no good, but the Eagles led 6-0 with 35 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
On their next possession, the Eagles would again drive 84 yards – this time in 10 plays. Parks connected with Wims from 37 yards out. The ball was fumbled on the extra point attempt, but Hinds led 12-0 with 9:03 left in the first half.
The Bobcats would then fumble at their own 8-yard line on their next possession and Brandon Graddy recovered for Hinds.
An offensive pass interference penalty failed to slow the Eagles. Parks would find Jahmmir Taylor from 27 yards away for a touchdown. The extra point was missed again, but Hinds led 18-0 with 7:53 left in the second quarter.
Late in the half, Hinds would march 59 yards in just four plays. Page connected with Wims from 12 yards out and Mason Sollie's extra point put Hinds ahead 25-0 with just 23 seconds left in the first half.
Midway through the third quarter, the Bobcats drove from their own 20 to the Hinds' 21 in 15 plays. But the Bobcats would turn the ball over on downs.
JCJC finally got on the board when Tevin Moore scored on a 2-yard run with 12:09 left in the game to cap a 60-yard, 11-play drive. A 20-yard pass completion from Bourrage to Davis on a fourth and 12 at the Hinds' 24 was the key play of the drive. Michael Godley's extra point made it 25-7.
The Bobcats would then try an onside kick, but it was not successful.
Hinds took over at the JCJC 42 and quickly went the distance in eight plays with Parks finding Taylor in the end zone from 33 yards away on a third and 27 play. Sollie's extra point gave the Eagles a 32-7 lead with 7:36 left.
A 38-yard kickoff return by Al'Dreecous Wilson gave the Bobcats the ball at their own 45.
Four plays later, Cowan scored on a 10-yard. The pass for two points failed and the Bobcats trailed 32-13.
Another Bobcat onside kick failed and the Eagles took over at the JCJC 38.
On the next play, Page scored on a 38-yard run with 5:26 left to play. The extra point attempt was blocked.
The Bobcats conclude regular season play at home against No. 14 Copiah-Lincoln Community College next week. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22.
Hinds travels to Southwest on Oct. 22.
