SUMMIT – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats held off Southwest Mississippi 85-79 here Thursday night at the Southwest Basketball Center.
Taylor Baudoin had 24 points and seven rebounds, while Kadie Parker had 22 points and six boards to lead the Lady Bobcats to the win.
JCJC is now 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the MACJC South Division. Southwest drops to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the division.
Southwest led by as many as five points in the first half at 26-21 before JCJC came back to lead 36-33 at halftime.
The Lady Bobcats gradually built the margin in the second half and took their longest lead of the night at 66-49 with 8:18 left when Alyson Johnson made a free throw. The Lady Bears battled back as close as 83-79 with just six seconds left.
Starla Daggans and Johnson added nine points each for Jones, while Johnson had seven assists and Jayda Simmons had seven rebounds.
Teshia Jones had 21 points for the Lady Bears, while Gabriella Cortez added 13 and Talisa Sherman had 12. Cortez had eight rebounds and Eyonna Wolfe had six assists.
JCJC was 30-of-68 from the floor, including 2-of-9 from 3-point range, for 44 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 23-of-36 from the free throw line.
Southwest was 26-of-59 from the field, including 7-of-19 from the 3-point line, for 44 percent. SMCC was 20-of-33 from the foul line.
The Lady Bobcats outrebounded Southwest 43-42, while Jones had 16 turnovers compared to 14 for the Lady Bears.
JCJC returns home on Monday to face Hinds Community College at A.B. Howard Gymnasium. The women's game tips off at 5:30 p.m. and will air on www.jcjc.tv.
Southwest travels to East Central on Monday.
