Lady Bobcats overcome 13-point deficit to beat East Central

DECATUR – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats overcame a 13-point deficit in the final 16 minutes of play and defeated East Central Community College 91-87 here Monday night at the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building. It was the eighth straight victory for the Lady Bobcats and the first loss of the season for East Central.
JCJC will not play again until they host Itawamba at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 6 at A.B. Howard Gymnasium. The game will air on www.jcjc.tv.
East Central travels to Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) on Saturday.
JCJC played behind for most of the game.
East Central's Breona Foster hit a 3-pointer with 15:41 left to give the hosts a 63-50 lead. But the Lady Bobcats went on a 17-4 run and tied it at 67-67 on a 10-footer by Alyson Johnson with 12:10 to play.
ECCC responded with six straight points and took a 73-67 lead with 10:50 to play on a pair of Jalesia Jones free throws.
But the Lady Bobcats went on an 11-0 run, capped by a Taylor Baudoin basket at the 7:54 mark to take a 78-73 lead.
The Lady Warriors would get not closer than 3 points the rest of the way with the final time being at 90-87 with 40.7 seconds to play on a steal and layup by Shakerya Morrison. ECCC had chances to pull closer, but Johnta' Hughes missed two free throws with 18.5 seconds left and Alexia McDonald missed two more with 17.7 remaining.
Johnson's free throw with 9.7 remaining gave the Lady Bobcats their final margin.
The Lady Warriors led 22-11 almost five minutes into the game and were up 34-22 midway through the first half. ECCC led 52-46 at halftime.
Baudoin paced the Lady Bobcats, 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the MACJC South Division, with 24 points, while Terrica Williams added 13. Ameonia House had 11 and Kadie Parker finished with 10. Baudoin and Williams each had 6 rebounds, while Johnson had 4 assists.
Jones led East Central, 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the division, with 24 points. Morrison added 14 and Samantha Duncan had 12. Morrison had a game-13 rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats shot the ball well from the floor, There were 34-of-54 from the field, including 1-of-4 from 3-point range, for 63 percent. But Jones was just 22-of-42 from the free throw line for 52.4 percent.
ECCC was 26-of-58 from the floor, including 6-of-22 from 3-point range, for 44.8 percent. They were only 29-of-49 from the free throw line for 59.2 percent.
The Lady Bobcats outrebounded East Central, 38-33. JCJC was whistled for 32 fouls and the Lady Warriors were called for 34.
