Former NFL running back and Jones standout Scottie Phillips takes charge of the Bobcats’ running backs in 2025.
The second all-time leading rusher and touchdown scorer in Jones history will take on his first coaching job.Â
Phillips played at South Jones High School from 2013-15, rushing for 1,600 yards and 22 touchdowns in a first team all-state season his senior year for the Braves.

Phillips rushed for over 1,000 yards in both years with Jones and was named an NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention as a freshman.Â
He was rated the No. 1 running back in the state by ESPN and 247Sports and No. 11 overall JUCO player in the state before signing with Ole Miss.

Phillips led Jones to an 8-2 record in 2017, the MACJC South Division title and the school's first playoff appearance in four years. He rushed for 1,212 yards as a freshman, which ranked fifth in the nation. His 123.6 yards per game average was second in the MACJC and third nationally.

As a sophomore, Phillips rushed for 1,070 yards, which was third in the state and 12th in the country, and led the team with 13 touchdowns.
Phillips transferred to Ole Miss for his junior and season seasons. In his junior season with the Rebels, he started 10 games, rushed for 927 yards, which was ninth in the SEC, and scored 12 touchdowns. He rushed for a school-record 204 yards in his debut vs. Texas Tech in 2018 and was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

He averaged 70 yards rushing per game in his two seasons at Ole Miss, ending his career 11th in career rushing touchdowns (17) and 17th in rushing yards (1,470).
Phillips received his bachelor's in general studies from Ole Miss in 2019 and then signed as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans of the NFL. He appeared in 11 games over the 2020-21 seasons, rushing for 22 yards and had three receptions.

Phillips played his final professional season with the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL in 2023.
Phillips and his wife, Brittani, married on April 27, 2024, and the couple have a two-year-old son, Jayden.
