Drew Taylor begins his first year as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Jones College.
The Meridian native spent the last two years as the head strength coach at Jackson Prep, an MAIS powerhouse that's captured the MAIS All-Sports Trophy in 25 of the last 26 years.Â
Taylor worked with baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball and volleyball at Prep. The Patriots won the 2024 state championship in baseball behind the National High School Baseball Player of the Year and the No. 9 overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Konnor Griffin. Prep also combined for a pair of basketball state titles and MAIS overall title in his time there.
Prior to his time at Prep, Taylor worked for the City of Madison as a firefighter while working as a graduate assistant strength coach at his alma mater, Mississippi College.
Taylor played two seasons for the Choctaws on the gridiron as a middle linebacker where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor's in kinesiology.Â
As a GA with Mississippi College he worked with football, track, basketball, softball and baseball and obtained his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification.
Taylor graduated valedictorian from Russell Christian Academy in 2018. He played both quarterback and middle linebacker in high school, earning all-conference awards at both positions. He threw for 2,800 yards and 59 touchdowns over his career and recorded 150 tackles and two interceptions, grabbing team defensive player of the year honors as a senior. He was also a three-time powerlifting state champion.Â
