Richard Chambliss enters his fourth season as an assistant football coach at Jones College.
He wears multiple hats for the Bobcats, coaching tight ends and special teams in addition to serving as the recruiting coordinator and director of football operations.
The Bobcats have been nationally-ranked in each of his first three seasons with a combined 20-7 record, south division championship and 2018 bowl victory over Eastern Arizona.
Chambliss has coached a trio of all-conference players on special teams and at tight end.
The Hattiesburg native took his first coaching job as a student assistant coach for three years with the Golden Eagles. He helped coach a pair of NFL players in wide receiver Michael Thomas (Cincinnati Bengals) and placekicker Corey Acosta (San Francisco 49ers).Â
He came to JC in the spring of 2016 and served as a restricted earnings defensive coach.
Chambliss then went to Perry Central High School and was the offensive coordinator for the 2016-17 seasons before returning to Jones in 2018 under Steve Buckley.
Chambliss received his bachelor’s degree from Southern Mississippi and his master’s degree from Fort Hays State in Kansas.
Chambliss is married to his wife, Sammi, and the couple are expecting their first child this fall.
