Brian Hudson gears up for a seventh season at Jones College where he works fundamentally with quarterbacks and wide receivers.
Hudson has coached receivers since his arrival at Jones in 2018, also overseeing the quarterback position in 2018 and 2022 to present.
Most notable under his guidance was quarterback Stetson Bennett IV during the 2018 season at Jones. Bennett went on to lead Georgia to back-to-back national championships and was a fourth-round selection of the Los Angeles Rams this past April.
Hudson has coached five all-conference receivers over the past four seasons in Justin Campbell, Ashton Nickelberry, Qua Sanders, Markel McLaurin and Bud Tolbert.
Fourteen have moved on to four-year programs, including four off the 2023 roster in Campbell (Akron), Dee Burks (MVSU), Houston Johnson (UWA) and Latrell Neville (New Mexico State).Â
Other notable signees under his watch include Duece and Phat Watts to Tulane, DJ Smith to Mercer, Tolbert to South Alabama, Jacory Rankin to MVSUÂ and Manny Jones to Alcorn State. Duece signed with Green Bay as a UDFA and is currently a practice squad player for the Pittsburgh Steelers.Â
The Clovis, New Mexico, native has been a part of 42 wins, including four MACCC south division titles and the 2018 Mississippi Bowl victory, 27-7, over Eastern Arizona. Â
Hudson spent the 2017 season working with receivers at the University of Kansas.Â
Prior to Kansas, Hudson was the passing game coordinator at Faulkner University during the 2015-16 seasons where he had one of the top passing offenses in the nation in NAIA.
Hudson began his coaching career as a student assistant at Oklahoma State under Mike Gundy from 2008-10 and worked closely with current Houston head coach Dana Holgorsen, who was offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at OSU in 2010.
During his five seasons at OSU, he was a part of five bowl teams, including the Heart of Dallas Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Cotton Bowl and Holiday Bowl. He served as offensive quality control coach in 2011-12, and during those two seasons, the Cowboys were a combined 20-6, finished No. 4 and No. 3 in scoring and total offense and won a Big 12 Conference championship.
Hudson followed former OSU offensive coordinator Todd Monken to Southern Miss and served as a graduate assistant for the Golden Eagles in 2013-14, working primarily with quarterbacks.
Hudson received his bachelor’s degree in university studies in 2010 from Oklahoma State.
