Kate Ewing

Laurel native and former Bobcat Kate Ewing begins her third season as head coach of the Jones College cheer program entering the 2026-27 sports season.

Ewing returned to Jones in 2023 as an assistant coach and won her first national title as a head coach last season, a full-circle moment for her.

The Bobcats won their first-ever UCA Open Coed Championship in 2021 and have followed with titles in 2022, 2024 and 2026.

Twenty-one student-athletes have inked with four-year programs in her first three seasons on staff, all to NCAA Division I programs.

Other duties for Ewing in her student affairs role include scheduling student activities on campus and intramurals.

Ewing, then Broom, cheered at Jones from 2018-20 and went on to don the sidelines and courts at the University of Alabama from 2020-23 while completing her bachelor's in kinesiology.

Ewing has coached gymnastics at Laurel Gym & Cheer, worked with youth teams in Laurel and is currently a competition coach for West Jones High School, where she graduated in 2018.

Ewing and her husband Reece, an assistant baseball coach for the Bobcats, celebrated their second wedding anniversary in January 2026.
