Jones College

ELLISVILLE – The No. 2 Jones College women's soccer team stayed unbeaten with a 4-0 home victory over Southwest Mississippi Community College on Friday, using a three-goal first half and another second-half strike to take control of the match.

The Bobcats created chances throughout the opening 45 minutes, struck twice in quick succession late in the half and carried a 3-0 advantage into the break before adding the final goal early in the second. Soccer scoreline

FIRST HALF

Jones (8-0-1 overall, 4-0) wasted little time getting on the board.

Maryanne Ward (Gweedore, Co. Donegal, Ireland; Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair) opened the scoring in the third minute, turning in a rebound after an initial effort was stopped by the Southwest (3-6-1, 0-4) goalkeeper. 

Ward nearly added another moments later, forcing a save in the seventh minute before sending another chance just over the crossbar in the 10th. Southwest threatened briefly on a pair of counters, but both attempts went wide. 

Jones continued to create opportunities as Dillyn Biancamano (Long Beach) had an effort saved in the 20th minute, Brianna Kimbrell (Olive Branch; Lewisburg) narrowly missed in the 23rd and Jameyah Hubbard (Tupelo) sent a chance just inches wide with 13 minutes remaining in the half.

Biancamano made it 2-0 in the 35th minute after collecting a clearance, carrying the ball down the left side, cutting inside and rifling the ball by the keeper.

Just one minute later, Karla Ovalle (Panama City, Panama; Bolivar Commercial Institute) added a third with a curling effort from outside the box that found the lower corner, giving Jones a 3-0 advantage heading toward halftime.

SECOND HALF

The Bobcats continued to pressure Southwest after the break.

Hubbard sent an early second-half attempt wide before Ward struck again in the 53rd minute, finishing off an assist from Ovalle for her second goal of the match and a 4-0 Bobcat lead.

The Bobcats nearly added to the margin again in the 60th minute when Hubbard skimmed the crossbar, but the four-goal advantage held through the final whistle.
