ELLISVILLE – The 13th-rated Jones College Bobcats post a critical 6-3 win over No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast here Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Jones is now 11-0 overall and 6-0 in the MACCC. MGCCC drops to 5-2 overall, 5-1 in the conference.
The Bobcats, who have now won eight of the last nine over the Bulldogs, opened the match with two wins in doubles.
Tom Garrett (Australia) and
Juan Francisco Pereyra (Argentina) edged Angel Hernandez and Santiago Enriquez in No. 1 doubles, 8-6.
Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) and
Ryan Roth (Resurrection Catholic) defeated Ryland Buford and Connor Hartfield in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Felipe Morales (Ecuador) and
Reese Touchet (Madison Central) lost 3-8 to Jan Bako and Warren Hudson in No. 2 doubles.
Pereyra outlasted Hernandez in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and Morales defeated Enriquez in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Jones downed Buford in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3 and
Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over Hudson in No. 5 singles. Garrett fell 6-2, 3-6, 0-6 to Bako in No. 2 singles and Roth lost to Nick Dulaney in No. 6 singles, 3-6, 2-6.
The Bobcats host No. 11 Coastal Alabama-South at 1 p.m. Thursday. Jones will not play in the conference again until after spring break on March 24 vs. Holmes.
