Jones suffers second straight defeat to NJCAA Top-6 opponent

ELLISVILLE – No. 6 Mississippi Gulf Coast made the most of its limited opportunities Tuesday evening, scoring on its only two shots on goal to hand No. 3 Jones College a 2-1 loss at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Bobcats (8-2-1, 4-2 MACCC) outshot Gulf Coast 10-7 and put six attempts on frame, but the Bulldogs were perfect on their two shots on target. Gulf Coast goalkeeper Kaylee Tardo made five saves to help the Bulldogs remain unbeaten at 9-0-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

The loss was Jones' second straight after the Bobcats opened the season unbeaten through their first nine matches.

Gulf Coast struck first in the 16th minute when Vanessa Radojevic scored off an assist from Macie Barham at the 15:17 mark.

Jones needed only 49 seconds to answer.

Jameyah Hubbard set up Karla Ovalle for the equalizer at 16:06, pulling the Bobcats even at 1-1.

Emma Barry scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 60th minute, taking an assist from Radojevic and finding the net at 59:24 to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-1. It was Gulf Coast's second shot on target of the night and its second goal.

Jones continued to create chances but could not find another equalizer. The Bobcats took five shots in the second half, putting four on goal, while Tardo stopped all four.

The Bobcats try to get back on track Friday, traveling to East Central for a 5 p.m. kick. The match will be streamed at eccclive.com/gold-channel.
