ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats began the 2026 season with an 8-1 victory over the Bevill State Bears here Friday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Jones opened the match by sweeping doubles.
Tom Garrett (Australia) and
Juan Francisco Pereyra (Argentina) defeated Illian Delalande and Mijael Obregon Herrejon, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles.
Felipe Morales (Ecuador) and
Reese Touchet (Madison Central) beat Sam Barclift and Luke Gardiner in No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
Ryan Roth (Resurrection Catholic) and
Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) downed Reggie Henson and Braden Henderson in No. 3 doubles, 8-6.
Garrett defeated Max Knauer in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2 and Pereyra beat Delalande in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Morales rallied past Gardiner in No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. Touchet fell to Max Osterberg in No. 4 singles, 0-6, 5-7. Jones whipped Barclift in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3 and
Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) defeated Henson in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
In extra matches, Roth rallied past Justin Gray, 0-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9) and
Nicholas Marengo (Forrest County AHS) whipped Griffin Nixon, 6-0, 6-1.
Crews Cockrell (West Jones) lost 5-8 to Henderson.
The Bobcats will go to Mississippi College for a Feb. 6 scrimmage and will meet Oxford-Emory (Ga.) in Meridian on Feb. 14.
