ELLISVILLE – Jones College had several standout performances in a 38-28 victory over Holmes here on a sunny, Homecoming Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field.
Jones, 3-2, snapped a two-game losing streak and won its first HC game since 2022. Holmes dropped to 2-3 overall.
Wide receiver
TK Keyes (Taylorsville) had nine receptions for 239 yards. Quarterback
Jevarion Glover (Amanda Elzy) completed 21-of-34 passes for 335 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for another 69 yards to account for 404 yards of total offense. Running back
Ky'Yon Harris (Union) had 14 carries for 61 yards.
Arterus Moffett (Saraland, Ala.) had eight tackles and one tackle for loss. Linebacker
Malaki Page (Bay Springs) had seven tackles and a quarterback hurry and
Damond Williams (Saraland, Ala.) had seven tackles, one TFL and a quarterback hurry.
Punter
Luke Stewart (Oak Grove) averaged 44.4 yards on seven punts with three going inside the 20-yard line.
The Bobcats opened the scoring on their third possession of the game, driving 73 yards in 11 plays. Glover scored on a 5-yard run and
Christian Baglione's (Northwest Rankin) extra point made it 7-0 in the first quarter.
One play after
Santae McWilliams Jr. (Saraland, Ala.) recovered a fumbled punt at the Holmes' 40-yard line, Glover would connect on the next play with
Kaiden Smith (Oak Grove) on a 40-yard touchdown pass. Baglione's kick made it 14-0 with 1:17 left in the opening period.
Holmes got on the board when Jeremy Atkins intercepted a
Cannon Crowder pass and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter. Colston Bennett's PAT made it 14-7 with 14:53 showing.
Two possessions later
KeVon Ford (Moss Point) recovered a Holmes' fumble that was forced at the Bobcat 20 by
Tay James (Mendenhall).
Two plays later Glover found Keyes for a 52-yard touchdown pass and Baglione's kick made it 21-7 with 9:48 left in the first half.
Holmes responded with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Richardson to Dalyn Jackson with 5:45 to play in the second quarter to end a 54-yard, five-play drive.
Jones took the ensuing kickoff and went 55 yards in six plays.
Cobey Craft (Taylorsville) scored on a 6-yard run and Baglione's kick made it 28-14 with 3:03 left in the first half.
The Bulldogs scored on their opening drive of the second half moving 72 yards in nine plays. Richardson threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jackson and Bennett's extra point made it 28-21 with 10:10 left in the third quarter.
The Bobcats answered with a 40-yard, six-play drive capped by a 47-yard Baglione field goal. That made it 31-21 with 7:36 left in the third.
On its next possession, Jones took over at the Holmes' 44 following a 25-yard punt. Glover connected with Keyes for a 43-yard pass and then scored on a 1-yard run. Baglione's extra point gave the Bobcats a 38-21 lead with 6:05 left in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs drove 66 yards in 11 plays for the game's final points. Richardson threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Tristin Purnell and Bennett's extra point was good with 9:52 remaining.
Jones ran 79 plays, picked up 23 first downs, 174 yards rushing, 335 yards passing and 509 yards of total offense. Holmes ran 88 plays, piled up 24 first downs, 140 yards rushing, 302 yards passing and 442 yards of total offense.
Richardson was 26-of-52 through the air for 293 yards. Bulldog running back K.J. Miller carried 16 times for 90 yards.
After an open date next week, Jones will host Hinds for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Oct. 9.
Holmes travels to Mississippi Delta on Oct. 9.
