WESTFIELD, Ind. –
Sherline King's brace and
Jennifer Huerzeler's seven saves and clean sheet helped No. 10 Jones over No. 8 Schoolcraft, 3-0, Saturday in the NJCAA Midwest Kickoff Classic.
Jones opened the year with back-to-back Top-20 wins and will play NJCAA Division III No. 3 Dallas-Brookhaven on August 29 in Ridgeland.
In a stalemate through the first 45 minutes and an even stat sheet, it was King's 50th minute score that gave Jones the 1-0 lead.
Tereza Perez scored her first collegiate goal in the 84th minute to give the Bobcats some breathing room, and just 35 seconds later, it was King's second goal that pushed the final to 3-0.
Jones outshot the Ocelots 21-14, 11-7 on net. Schoolcraft drew seven corners to the Bobcats' two. There were 30 combined fouls.
In Huerzeler's first collegiate start between the posts, she'd stop all seven shots she faced. Eliana Hassan had seven saves for Schoolcraft but allowed three goals.
The Bobcats host Delta State on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 5 p.m. in the final exhibition of the season. Tickets can be purchased through
jcbobcats.com/tickets for $7 online (+fee) or $10 cash only at the entrance.
