ELLISVILLE – Jones never trailed over three games during the Ellisville Regional.
Jayden Sawyer struck out 10 for a second straight day and also homered and
Addy Shorter added her second home run in two days in a 6-4 win over Pearl River in Tuesday's bracket final.
Jones improved to 46-8 and will meet Copiah-Lincoln, 43-4, on Sunday, May 11 at 3 p.m. (postponed from Saturday) in Wesson for the NJCAA Region 23 Championship.
The teams split a pair of games in Wesson back on April 2 when Jones handed the Lady Wolves their only home loss of the year.
Both teams have already qualified for the 2025 NJCAA Division II World Series at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama, but will play for an extra piece of hardware first.
In Tuesday's bracket final against PRCC,
Anna Grace Whitehead's RBI-single in the second scored
Emily Mizelle for the game's first run.
Sawyer's sac fly made it 2-0 in the third and Shorter homered in the fourth to make it 3-0.
With Sawyer cruising in the circle with two down in the fifth, an eight-pitch walk drawn by Anna Kate Rounsaville opened the door for a Peyton Hoffmayer two-run homer to left-center to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Bobcats, however, immediately answered in the bottom half of the frame with
Makynlie Jones' RBI-single and Sawyer's two-run blast.
The Wildcats' last gasp came in the top of the seventh when they loaded the bases with only one out. But a sac fly and strikeout swinging closed out a 6-4 victory.
First pitch of Saturday's region championship is to be determined with weather sweeping all through the area.
An NJCAA World Series bracket and matchups will be announced on the
NJCAA Network on Tuesday, May 13 at 2 p.m.
